Dhaka, May 8: The first Test match of the series between Bangladesh and Pakistan is underway at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium. On the opening day, Bangladesh’s batsmen showcased their dominance, finishing the day with a score of 301 runs for the loss of just four wickets.

Pakistan’s captain Shan Masood won the toss and opted to have Bangladesh bat first. The hosts had a shaky start, with Mahmudul Hasan Joy dismissed for just 8 runs, falling to Shaheen Afridi. Following him, Shadman Islam also struggled, returning to the pavilion after scoring only 13 runs.

At 31 runs, Bangladesh lost their second wicket, but Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto steadied the innings. The duo formed a crucial partnership, adding 170 runs for the third wicket. Mominul narrowly missed out on a century, scoring 91 runs with 10 boundaries. Meanwhile, Najmul Hossain played a remarkable innings, scoring 101 runs off 130 balls, including 12 fours and 2 sixes.

As the day concluded, experienced batsmen Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das remained at the crease. Mushfiqur faced 104 balls, scoring 48 runs, while Liton contributed 8 runs. Together, they have forged an unbeaten partnership of 25 runs for the fourth wicket. Pakistan’s bowling attack appeared lackluster on the first day of the Test.

From Pakistan’s side, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Abbas, and Nauman Ali each took one wicket. The team faced a significant setback before the Test match, as key batsman Babar Azam was ruled out due to injury. This match also marks the debut of Azaan Awais and Abdullah Fazal for Pakistan.
