Ujjain, August 10: On the second Monday of Sawan, the divine Bhasma Aarti was performed at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple. A large number of devotees gathered to witness this extraordinary event.
Early Monday morning, after seeking blessings from Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As the devotees got a glimpse of Baba Mahakal following the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the entire temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.
Pandit Akash Sharma, a priest at the Mahakal Temple, shared, “Today marks the second Monday of the holy month of Sawan and is also Som Pradosh, making it a very auspicious day for all Shiva devotees.” He explained that the temple doors were opened at 2:30 AM, followed by an abhishekam with Panchamrit. Baba Mahakal was adorned with bhang and fruits.
Pandit Sharma further noted that Baba Mahakal was given a special offering of fruits due to Som Pradosh, as Baba himself observes a fast on this day. Following this, the divine Bhasma Aarti was conducted, fulfilling the wishes of Baba Mahakal’s devotees.
On this occasion, Sadhvi Harsha Nand Giri visited to pay her respects at Baba Mahakal. Speaking to reporters, she remarked, “Today is very special as the second Monday of Sawan coincides with Pradosh Vrat. Some will observe the Pradosh fast and perform related rituals, while others will keep the Sawan Monday fast. Regardless, it is believed that simply engaging in prayer or visiting the deity today brings immense spiritual merit.”
Sadhvi Giri expressed that participating in the Bhasma Aarti felt miraculous. “This is my first time joining a Kanwar Yatra, and it has been a fulfilling experience, thanks to Baba Mahakal’s blessings.”
Devotee Swara Kaushik, who traveled from Mathura, shared her joy, stating, “Being part of the Bhasma Aarti on the second Monday of Sawan has uplifted my spirit. Baba has alleviated my troubles, which is why we all chant ‘Har-Har Mahadev.'”
Another devotee, Kanishtha Kalreja, expressed her gratitude, saying, “It is a matter of fortune to participate in the Bhasma Aarti on this day. The experience was joyful, and it felt as if Baba was right there with us.”
