Mumbai, August 23: A disturbance occurred at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus near the Vice-Chancellor’s residence involving a man and a woman consuming alcohol in a car. Students surrounded the vehicle and caused damage before handing the intoxicated couple over to the police.
Witnesses reported that students noticed the pair arguing inside the car. The woman was seen hitting the man. At one point, a male occupant exited the vehicle and headed towards the library, allegedly entering the research division. Students intervened and removed him from the premises. Meanwhile, a university team arrived at the scene.
According to the university proctor, both individuals were reportedly inebriated. They were safely escorted to a secure location in the presence of the university staff. The proctor noted that the woman’s condition was so severe that she struggled to stand and vomited in the restroom. The man also became ill and experienced vomiting.
Following the incident, the local police were notified. Officers arrived at the campus and took the couple into custody. They are now investigating the identities of the individuals, how they arrived on campus, and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Student Faisal Tyagi mentioned that an abandoned car had entered the campus without a license plate. Inside, a girl was seen physically assaulting a boy. This information was relayed to the university proctor, who subsequently called the police to handle the situation. Tyagi confirmed that both the boy and girl were intoxicated.
Professor Naved Khan stated that they were informed about a car where a woman was attacking her male companion. Both were reported to be heavily intoxicated before being handed over to the authorities.
