Dilip Ghosh Celebrates Fish Festival, Promises Local Fish Availability for Bengal

Kolkata, May 10: Following the historic victory of the BJP in West Bengal and the formation of a new government, a ‘Fish Festival’ was held in Kolkata on Sunday. Newly appointed minister and BJP MLA Dilip Ghosh, along with fellow MLA Tapas Roy, attended as chief guests.

Minister Dilip Ghosh expressed his love for fishing, stating, “I enjoy fishing just as much as I enjoy eating fish. We will ensure that fish and rice produced in Bengal are available to the people of Bengal.”

In a conversation with the media, Ghosh mentioned a ‘Machh-Bhat’ event organized to celebrate the occasion. He criticized Mamata Banerjee for her political maneuvering, claiming she said that Bengali people would not be allowed to eat Machh-Bhat. He pointed out that while Bengal is the largest consumer of fish, local production is insufficient. “We have to import fish from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and other states. I visited Siliguri and witnessed this firsthand. If the people of Bengal eat fish, why is it not produced here? If people consume rice, rice is produced here. In 15 years of governance, they have failed to ensure that the people of Bengal receive fish from Bengal. We will make sure that fish and rice produced in Bengal are available to the people.”

On social media platform X, Ghosh reiterated his passion for fishing. He noted that a celebration was held on Amherst Street in North Kolkata, where people enjoyed fish and rice to commemorate the BJP’s victory. He stated that the people of the state would now be able to consume more fish due to increased production and rising incomes, which would enhance their purchasing power.

He also criticized the TMC, stating that until now, only TMC leaders could afford to eat good and expensive fish using public funds. With the end of extortion and ‘cut-money’ practices, he promised that public money would return to the people, allowing everyone to enjoy quality fish.

Newly elected BJP MLA Tapas Roy questioned Mamata Banerjee, asking what she had done to address the high demand for fish in West Bengal. He emphasized that without fish and eggs from BJP-ruled states, they would not be able to consume them. He also highlighted the lack of jobs and employment opportunities, asserting that the BJP government would work swiftly to create jobs.
