Diksha Dagar Shines at South African Womens Open with Impressive Start

Cape Town, April 24: Indian golfer Diksha Dagar has made a remarkable start at the South African Women’s Open held in Cape Town. She scored an impressive 5-under 68 in the first round, placing her 11th overall and leading among Indian players.

The left-handed player previously won this tournament in 2019. This time, her experience and confidence have contributed to her strong performance. Notably, her play on the back nine was exceptional, where she made five birdies. Although her game had some ups and downs initially, she made a strong comeback after the 11th hole, showcasing consistent skill.

Another Indian player, Pranavi Urs, also performed well, finishing with a score of 2-under 70, securing the 20th position. Her game displayed both patience and resilience, with three birdies on the front nine and leads on the 11th and 17th holes. However, a bogey on the 15th hole prevented her from improving her position on the leaderboard.

The performance of other Indian players was mixed. Hitaishi Bakshi scored 72, while Avani Prashant finished with 73, placing them both at 64th. Tvesa Malik (74) and Vani Kapoor (75) faced challenges, landing in 82nd and 92nd places, respectively. These players will need to elevate their performance in the next round to secure their spots.

Currently, Patricia Schmidt from Germany leads the tournament with an outstanding score of 10-under 63. A positive takeaway for India is the consistent international performance of its players. Diksha Dagar’s strong start is expected to boost her confidence, and there are high hopes for her continued excellence in the upcoming rounds. If she maintains her form, she could emerge as a strong contender for the title in this tournament.
