Dhankhar, Mamata pay tributes to Ambedkar

Kolkata, April 14 : West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday paid tributes to B. R. Ambedkar – the father of the Indian constitution – on his birth anniversary. Dhankhar paid floral tributes to Ambedkar at the altar of his statue in the state Assembly premises here. In a tweet, the Raj Bhavan said it was “a day to reaffirm our Commitment to realise his dreams”. Banerjee wished that the Ambedkar’s life and work would inspire one and all to uphold the cardinal principles of the Constitution. In a tweet, the Chief Minister said, “My sincere tributes to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary.” “ May his life and works continue to inspire us to work tirelessly for the good of all and to uphold the cardinal principles of our Constitution,” she added. Born on this day, Bharat Ratna Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was an Indian jurist, economist and Dalit leader who headed the committee drafting the Constitution of India from the Constituent Assembly debates, served as Law and Justice minister in the first cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru, and inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement after renouncing Hinduism.
