Ujjain, February 24: On the auspicious seventh day of the waxing phase of the month of Phalgun, a large number of devotees gathered for the Bhasma Aarti at the temple of Baba Mahakal on Tuesday morning.
Devotees began lining up from Brahma Muhurat, filling the air with chants of praise for Baba Mahakal. The temple doors opened at 4 AM for the Bhasma Aarti, where priests performed the Panchamrit Abhishek using milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar, honey, and fruit juices, followed by the Bhasma Aarti.
This Bhasma Aarti is conducted by the Mahanirvani Akhara, allowing devotees to witness Baba in both formless and manifest forms. After the Aarti, Baba is adorned with sandalwood and a crescent moon is placed on his forehead, along with a new crown and a garland of flowers.
Devotees were visibly delighted by Baba’s magnificent adornment. Each day, Baba is dressed in a unique manner, and on this Tuesday, he was decorated with Chandra Bel leaves.
The Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal is renowned both nationally and internationally, attracting visitors from far and wide to Ujjain. To participate in the Aarti, devotees must register online in advance and obtain a token for the day of the event, along with a fee set by the temple.
During the Bhasma Aarti, the Jyotirlinga is first covered with cloth, followed by the application of Bhasma. Subsequently, the deity is adorned with a silver crown, Tripund, Rudraksha, Mundmala, and flowers. This daily adornment varies, captivating the hearts of devotees. Today’s ‘Chandra-Kamal’ decoration enchanted all present.
