Bokaro, March 3: A severe fire broke out in the Shivnadiha Azad Nagar area of Bokaro district, Jharkhand, on Tuesday evening, engulfing several shops. Two individuals suffered burns and are currently receiving treatment. The fire reportedly started in a tent house warehouse, which housed a large number of cooking gas cylinders.
It is suspected that an explosion during the refilling of the cylinders triggered the blaze.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang around 6 PM from inside the warehouse. Following the explosion, multiple cylinders began to burst, causing panic in the vicinity. The flames were visible from a distance, and chaos ensued as the fire rapidly spread to 10-12 adjacent shops, resulting in significant losses for local traders.
Upon receiving the alert, a police team from the Marafari station arrived promptly, cordoning off the area and evacuating residents to a safe distance. Given the severity of the situation, nearby buildings were also evacuated as a precaution. Six fire department vehicles were dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters worked tirelessly amidst the ongoing cylinder explosions to bring the fire under control. The two injured individuals were quickly transported to the hospital via ambulance, where they are being treated.
The exact cause of the fire has not been officially confirmed; however, local residents claim that the warehouse was involved in both tent material storage and gas cylinder refilling. Marafari police station chief Mohammad Azad Khan stated that the extent of the damage has yet to be assessed. He added that an investigation is underway, and necessary actions will be taken if safety regulations were violated.
