Hardoi, April 24: A massive fire broke out at Shobhit Electronics and Furniture showroom and warehouse in the town of Sandhi, Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh, around 2 AM on Thursday. The blaze resulted in the destruction of goods worth over ₹2 crore, including cash amounting to ₹22.43 lakh. Firefighters responded promptly, dispatching five fire engines to the scene to control the flames. However, the shop owner claims that the firefighters arrived late despite being informed, leading to greater damage.
The fire reportedly started on the ground floor in the electronics showroom and quickly spread to the warehouse on the first floor. Initially, one fire engine arrived, but due to the severity of the situation, three additional engines were called from Hardoi and two from Bilgram. After nearly three hours of intense efforts, the fire was finally brought under control.
The inferno consumed a large quantity of electronic items and furniture, including televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, sofas, inverters, batteries, beds, and mattresses. According to shopkeeper Puneet Vajpayee, approximately ₹1.97 crore worth of goods and ₹22.43 lakh in cash were lost in the fire, bringing the total estimated loss to over ₹2 crore.
Vajpayee accused the fire brigade of not arriving with adequate resources despite being notified, which delayed the firefighting efforts. He also criticized the local police and administration for their lack of responsiveness. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and an investigation is ongoing.
Fire officer Sushil Kumar from Hardoi stated that they received the fire alert at 1:39 AM. Upon arrival, they found the fire had escalated significantly, prompting the call for additional fire engines. After relentless efforts over three hours, the fire was extinguished without any reported casualties. Preliminary assessments suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit.
