Denmarks Ambassador Highlights Economic Opportunities from EU-India and India-EFTA Agreements

New Delhi, March 16: Denmark’s Ambassador to India, Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, met with Secretary of West Affairs, Sibi George, at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi alongside other Nordic ambassadors.

Kristensen emphasized the growing potential for cooperation between India and Nordic countries. He stated that the economic partnership opportunities have significantly expanded following the EU-India and India-EFTA free trade agreements.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Kristensen remarked, “Nordic countries and India have much to offer each other, and these opportunities have grown even larger with the EU-India and India-EFTA free trade agreements. A four trillion dollar economy is now merging with a two trillion dollar economy. It was a pleasure meeting Secretary Sibi George today in Delhi along with other Nordic ambassadors.”

Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, during a two-day visit to Belgium, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Minister Jaishankar shared details of his meeting with von der Leyen on ‘X’, stating, “It was a pleasure meeting European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Monday afternoon. Her highly successful state visit to India this January marked a significant turning point in our relations. We are actively moving forward on this. We appreciate her insights on contemporary global events.”

Additionally, Minister Jaishankar expressed gratitude to the Armenian government for ensuring the safety and evacuation of Indian citizens. Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, the Indian government is coordinating with foreign governments for the safe return of stranded Indian nationals.

Some Indians were trapped in Armenia, but they were safely evacuated today. Minister Jaishankar thanked Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan for this assistance.

In a post on ‘X’, he wrote, “Thank you to the Armenian government and its people for their cooperation in the safe evacuation of over 550 Indian citizens from Iran. We appreciate their support during these challenging times.”
