New Delhi, February 18: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force of the Delhi Police‘s Crime Branch made a significant drug bust on Tuesday night near the Bhopura border, recovering 1.504 kilograms of heroin. The estimated value of the seized drugs in the international market is approximately ₹7.5 crore. Three individuals, including a husband and wife, have been arrested in connection with this case.
Police officials reported that they received a tip-off indicating that a man named Arif was transporting large quantities of heroin from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, to various locations in Ghaziabad and Delhi.
Based on this information, surveillance was conducted in the Bhopura border area, focusing on a suspicious WagonR taxi. A team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Vikas Pannu and the supervision of ACP/ANTF Satendra Mohan, utilizing both technical and human intelligence.
A suspicious WagonR car coming from Ghaziabad was intercepted. Arif Khan (36) and his wife Shikha Ali (30) were taken into custody for questioning. During the search, 303 grams of heroin were found in their possession, while an additional 1007 grams were discovered in a bag on the back seat of the car. During interrogation, it was revealed that the couple used the pretext of traveling with family to smuggle drugs under the cover of darkness, avoiding police suspicion.
Following the couple’s interrogation, the heroin receiver, Jumman (32), a resident of JJ Colony in Bhalswa Dairy, Delhi, was also arrested. Based on his information, an additional 194 grams of heroin was recovered, bringing the total seizure to 1504 grams.
Investigations revealed that Arif had turned to driving a taxi after losing his job during the COVID-19 pandemic and became involved in drug trafficking through connections with a reputed kingpin in Bareilly. Jumman was responsible for packaging and supplying drugs locally.
The Crime Branch stated that this operation has disrupted a major drug network operating in Delhi-NCR. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the entire supply chain and identify other suspects in different states. More arrests related to this case are expected soon.
