New Delhi, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma has publicly expressed regret after slapping a supporter of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday. The incident occurred when the supporter allegedly insulted Verma’s family and obstructed the work of government officials and contractors in the Dwarka area, causing damage to a road under construction.
A video of the altercation quickly went viral on social media. In response, Verma shared a message and a video explaining the context of the incident. He stated, “Listen to the full truth behind today’s incident… but what happened should not have occurred.”
In the attached video, Verma alleged that AAP legislators were attempting to extort money from a contractor working on a section of the Outer Ring Road in the Dwarka area. He noted that the contractor has since filed a complaint with the police regarding the matter.
Verma accused AAP MLA Jarnail Singh of damaging a newly constructed tar road and launching a misleading social media campaign to tarnish the reputation of both the Delhi government and the contractor involved.
“I want to make it clear to the Aam Aadmi Party that any disruption of government operations, damage to public property, or solicitation of bribes from contractors or officials will not be tolerated,” Verma emphasized.
He added that the incident reflects the AAP leaders’ discomfort with the fact that the BJP-led Delhi government is completing projects that were left unfinished by them. Verma mentioned that he had invited the AAP MLA to inspect the site to verify the quality of the road construction.
Despite expressing regret over the physical confrontation, Verma vowed to take action against those who engage in corruption and obstruct government work. He announced that the Public Works Department will conduct a quality audit and investigation to address concerns about the road construction, while firmly stating that misinformation and corruption attempts will not be accepted.
In a counter to the incident, Jarnail Singh posted a video clip on his social media account, which included an older video questioning the quality of the road.
Verma’s post expressing regret came just hours after the AAP MLA’s video gained traction online.
