During this session, the court directed the Delhi Police to submit the complete minutes of the meeting held on judges’ security arrangements, along with an affidavit.
The court was informed that a meeting had taken place following a previous order, but the report has yet to be presented on record.
The High Court questioned the Delhi Police about the feasibility of providing security to all judicial officers. In response, the police stated that security measures are determined based on threat perception assessments. Currently, 12 judges are receiving security due to identified potential threats against them.
The court emphasized that if an individual faces a threat, providing security is both natural and necessary. However, the critical question remains whether the demand for security from all judicial officers is valid and if they should be assigned personal security officers (PSOs) and additional protection. The court insisted that since a meeting has already occurred on this matter, all relevant information should be documented to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the case.
This issue is linked to a petition filed by the Judicial Service Association of Delhi, which requests that judges in Delhi be provided with personal security officers and additional security at their residences. The petitioners argue that judges often make sensitive decisions, making their safety paramount.
The Delhi High Court has ordered the police to submit the meeting report and scheduled the next hearing for July 7. It is anticipated that the court will thoroughly consider the future arrangements for the security of judicial officers during this session.
