New Delhi, May 15: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for energy conservation, resource savings, and responsible living, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta convened a crucial meeting with party legislators at the Delhi Secretariat on Friday. She urged them to communicate the government’s decisions to the public effectively.
The Chief Minister emphasized that in light of the current global crisis, rising fuel challenges, and economic conditions, the Delhi government is fully committed to transforming the Prime Minister’s message into a mass movement.
She instructed the legislators to launch extensive outreach campaigns in their respective constituencies, encouraging citizens to save fuel, use public transport, carpool, and adopt responsible lifestyles. She also urged them to lead by example. Under the ‘Metro Monday’ initiative, legislators are encouraged to travel by metro at least one day a week to inspire the public. Additionally, she appealed for limiting convoys, reducing vehicle usage, and prioritizing electric vehicles.
The Chief Minister directed legislators to engage with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), social organizations, market associations, educational institutions, and various groups to disseminate information about the Delhi government’s ‘My India, My Contribution’ campaign. She stated that this 90-day awareness initiative is not just a government program but a collective effort for national interest, where every citizen’s role is vital.
Gupta noted that the Delhi government has made significant decisions to implement the Prime Minister’s call. This includes a ‘work from home’ policy for government departments two days a week, with private institutions and companies encouraged to follow suit.
She stressed the importance of informing the public about the government’s decisions during this crisis, urging them to adopt these measures. Every Monday will be celebrated as ‘Metro Monday,’ and a ‘No Vehicle Day’ is proposed once a week. The government has also decided not to purchase new petrol, diesel, CNG, or hybrid vehicles for the next six months. Additionally, air conditioning in government offices will be set between 24 to 26 degrees Celsius to ensure energy savings. The government will also establish special corners for ‘Made in India’ products in malls and supermarkets across the capital.
The Chief Minister remarked that the current moment calls for not just government efforts but also national responsibility through public participation. She reiterated that Prime Minister Modi’s message extends beyond fuel savings; it encompasses a broader national campaign towards self-reliant India, environmental protection, and responsible citizenship.
According to the Chief Minister, if every citizen makes small changes in their habits, the nation can robustly confront challenges like the energy crisis. She added that the Delhi government’s aim is not only to make administrative decisions but also to foster awareness and a sense of participation within society. If Delhi becomes a successful model in this campaign, it will send a positive message throughout the country.
