New Delhi, April 8: In a significant move, the Delhi government has doubled the allocation of commercial LPG cylinders for migrant workers and students. Following directives from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the daily allocation has increased from 180 to 360 cylinders, each weighing 19 kilograms, as confirmed by an official.
This adjustment comes after a revised order that allocates a total of 6,480 cylinders across various sectors. Priority is given on a ‘first come, first served’ basis to essential services, including healthcare establishments, public sector enterprises, hotels, restaurants, and food processing units.
Oil marketing companies (OMCs) have been instructed to strictly adhere to the daily limit of 6,480 cylinders and to report any additional cylinders to the department for reallocation.
According to Sirsa, 5-kilogram free trade LPG (FTL) cylinders are distributed through authorized agencies with robust safety measures. These include mandatory identity verification, a centralized beneficiary database maintained by OMCs to prevent duplication or misuse, and a minimum seven-day gap between cylinder issuances to the same individual.
In a post on the social media platform X, Sirsa stated that in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government’s guidelines, and under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership, the Delhi government has increased the daily limit of cylinders for migrant workers and students to 360. This decision is part of the new daily limit of 6,480 cylinders, ensuring timely gas supply to those in need.
The prioritized sectors include: hotels, restaurants, and food services: 3,375 cylinders; labor-intensive industries: 1,800 cylinders; educational and health institutions: 225 cylinders; government institutions and community kitchens: 225 cylinders; caterers and banquets: 225 cylinders; and sports complexes and stadiums: 270 cylinders.
Sirsa reassured all citizens of Delhi that the gas distribution system is under close scrutiny, and strict legal action is being taken against hoarding or black marketing. The government is fully committed to ensuring timely gas availability for everyone.
