Delhi Chief Minister Accuses Previous Government of Corruption in Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Board

New Delhi, March 13: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended a meeting of the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Board on Friday. Following the meeting, she launched a strong attack on the previous government, accusing it of opening doors to fraud and corruption under the guise of development. She stated that it is now time to revitalize the board.

In a conversation with reporters, CM Gupta noted that it had been years since the board last convened. Upon reviewing the documents, she expressed her astonishment at the extent of corruption associated with a government that boasted of its achievements. The development projects discussed since 2018, which began with a budget of 65 crores, have ballooned to 148 crores, and the demand for funds continues.

She highlighted that the entire saga of the former chairperson and minister is documented in the board’s proceedings. Corruption was rampant in the name of development. Now, it is time to not only rename the board but also initiate essential work. A beautiful area will be developed, and the board will operate with renewed vigor.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that work is underway on 28 streets in Old Delhi at a cost of 160 crores. Additionally, plans are in place to underground electric wiring and improve toilet facilities. A town hall will also be constructed, with development focused on preserving the heritage of Old Delhi, which she described as the heart of the city.

Meanwhile, Delhi government minister Ashish Sood accused the previous administration of failing to undertake any work for Old Delhi. Under CM Gupta’s leadership, the board is committed to preserving and developing the cultural heritage of the old residential areas. Discussions on this initiative began today, and collaboration with all agencies will be prioritized.

Regarding the shortage of gas cylinders, he stated that the central government has repeatedly claimed there is no shortage. The focus is on taking strict measures to curb black marketing. Some individuals have exploited the post-COVID situation to further their political agendas, including Arvind Kejriwal, who left Delhi residents struggling for oxygen cylinders, prompting comments from the High Court.
