
New Delhi, April 13: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will kick off its Heritage Week program today in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to promote the capital’s rich heritage.
An official stated that this initiative, running from Monday to Saturday (April 13 to 18), aims to help people, especially the youth, connect with Delhi’s art and culture. It will also feature an exhibition/documentation of conservation efforts in the Mehrauli area.
DDA Vice Chairman N. Saravana Kumar emphasized, “Delhi’s heritage is a vibrant legacy that should remain central to the city’s future. Through Heritage Week, the DDA aims to strengthen public engagement, particularly among the youth, with these invaluable historical sites.”
He added, “Our ongoing focus is to ensure that heritage conservation, ecological restoration, and public space development progress together as integral elements of balanced and sustainable urban development in Delhi.”
According to a statement from the DDA, Heritage Week seeks to deepen public awareness and pride in Delhi’s heritage assets, encourage community participation and youth involvement, and showcase its continuous efforts in heritage conservation and urban ecology.
The broader goal is to inspire people of all ages to actively participate in valuing, experiencing, and preserving the city’s cultural and historical identity.
The week-long initiative will include student engagement activities, a photography competition, a student dialogue competition, sketching and painting contests, a storytelling activity, exhibitions, and a cultural night program.
In preparation for the event, the DDA also organized a heritage walk in collaboration with the School of Heritage Research and Management (SHRM) at B.R. Ambedkar University.
