Bengaluru, May 16: Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar stated on Friday that H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, remains politically relevant by criticizing the Congress government.
Shivakumar addressed reporters near his residence in Sadashivanagar, asserting that if Kumaraswamy stops criticizing them, he will struggle to maintain his political standing. “We are doing good work, and he opposes it,” Shivakumar remarked.
In response to Kumaraswamy’s criticism regarding the Bidadi Township project, Shivakumar emphasized that they are merely advancing a project initiated during Kumaraswamy’s tenure. “I will personally meet with farmers, regardless of the challenges they pose. Whether they beat me, tear my clothes, throw stones, or chant slogans against me, we cannot be intimidated. What matters is the future of the people, their children, and their property. Even if it takes 20 years, the people of Bidadi and South Bengaluru will remember me,” he stated.
Shivakumar challenged Kumaraswamy, questioning why he did not acquire the land designated for the project during his time in office. “Could Kumaraswamy not have acquired the land? Why didn’t he do it? I am not willing to acquire it. He knows the consequences of acquisition, as do Yediyurappa and I,” he added.
Notably, the Bidadi project, officially known as the Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT), is a significant urban development initiative launched by D.K. Shivakumar to create a new ‘work-live-play’ city near Bengaluru.
Shivakumar also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding rising inflation and prices, attributing these issues to Modi’s governance. He claimed that Modi has failed to maintain good relations with other countries and manage international crises, which is why he urges people to conserve electricity and limit petrol usage.
