Chennai, May 18: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has won the toss and elected to bat in their 63rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Fans were hopeful for Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s participation, but he is not fit to play. The match is taking place at MA Chidambaram Stadium, where SRH aims to strengthen their playoff chances with a victory.
After winning the toss, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad stated, “We want to bat first. The pitch looks a bit dry, and we aim to set a good total. In our last match against Mumbai Indians, the wicket wasn’t great for batting either. Nothing is too difficult; we want to keep things simple. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is still here, but he is not fully fit to play. There is one change in our team.”
On the other hand, SRH captain Pat Cummins remarked, “This is T20 cricket, and not every match is easy. They know that their strategy may not work in every game. We might prefer to bowl first. Our team remains the same as in the last match.”
So far this season, Chennai Super Kings have won 6 out of 12 matches, facing defeats in the same number of games. With 12 points, CSK is currently in fifth place on the points table.
In contrast, Sunrisers Hyderabad has secured 7 wins out of 12 matches, placing them third with 14 points. A significant victory in this match could elevate SRH to second place in the standings.
CSK’s playing eleven includes: Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ruturaj Gaikwad (captain), Urvil Patel, Karthik Sharma, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, Prashant Veer, Akil Hossain, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, and Spencer Johnson.
SRH’s playing eleven features: Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Heinrich Klaasen, Salil Arora, Smaran Ravichandran, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Pat Cummins (captain), Shivang Kumar, Ishan Malinga, Saqib Hussain, and Praful Hinge.
