
New Delhi, May 16: In the 59th match of IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced a 7-wicket defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday. This loss has caused CSK to drop one position in the points table.
With this being their fifth defeat in 11 matches, CSK has now fallen from fifth to sixth place, accumulating a total of 12 points. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals (RR) benefited from CSK’s loss, moving up from sixth to fifth position in the standings.
Royal Challengers Bangalore remains at the top of the table with 16 points from 12 matches, closely followed by Gujarat Titans, also with 16 points. Sunrisers Hyderabad holds the third spot with 14 points, while Punjab Kings is in fourth place with 13 points. Delhi Capitals sits seventh with 9 points from 11 matches, and Kolkata Knight Riders are in eighth place.
The match, held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, saw CSK batting first. They scored 187 runs, losing 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Karthik Sharma delivered an impressive performance, scoring 71 runs off 42 balls, while Shivam Dube added a quick 32 runs off just 16 balls.
However, LSG chased down the target of 188 runs with ease, losing only 3 wickets in 16.4 overs. Mitchell Marsh played a spectacular innings, scoring 90 runs off 38 balls, while Josh Inglis contributed 36 runs. Nicholas Pooran showcased his form, finishing with an unbeaten 32 runs off 17 balls, leading his team to victory.
