Ranchi, April 6: A serious incident occurred during an ongoing anti-Naxalite operation in the Saranda forest area of West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand. A CRPF soldier was critically injured after stepping on an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites on Monday.
The soldier was immediately rescued and airlifted to Ranchi for better medical treatment. Reports indicate that security forces were conducting an intensive search operation against Naxalites in the Saranda area of Chaibasa when the explosion took place. The soldier inadvertently triggered a pressure IED hidden along the forest path, resulting in a powerful blast.
Following the incident, senior officials were notified, and the injured soldier was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Ranchi, where a team of doctors is currently treating him. According to security forces, a decisive battle is ongoing between police and Naxalites in Saranda. After the deaths of 17 Naxalites in January, the insurgents have intensified their efforts to harm soldiers by laying numerous explosives along forest paths and trails.
In February and March alone, three significant blasts have occurred in Saranda, resulting in the death of a villager and injuries to two soldiers from the Cobra Battalion. On March 1, an IED explosion during a search operation in the same area severely injured Assistant Commandant Ajay Mallick of the Cobra Battalion.
In response to the latest incident, a high alert has been issued in Chaibasa and surrounding Naxalite-affected areas. Security forces have intensified their patrols and search operations in the Saranda forests to neutralize any hidden explosives and effectively curb Naxalite activities.
