Criminals Escape Attempt Causes Police Van Crash in Jharkhand

Ranchi, May 13: A police van in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district was involved in a crash due to the reckless actions of a criminal, resulting in injuries to five police personnel, including the driver. The incident occurred late Tuesday night near the Amarora gas depot in the Kharoundhi police station area.

A wanted criminal, Manoj Paswan, attempted to escape by suddenly grabbing the steering wheel of the police van, causing it to lose control and collide with a tree before overturning into a ditch.

According to reports, a police team was returning to the station after apprehending Paswan from the Majhigwan Panchayat, following instructions from DSP Banshidhar Nagar. As the van approached the Amarora turn near the gas depot, Paswan seized the steering wheel from driver Rinku Joshi, violently turning it to one side. His intention was to crash the vehicle, allowing him to escape amidst the ensuing chaos.

As soon as the steering was turned, the speeding van went out of control, crashing into a tree and flipping over. Immediately after the accident, the injured criminal attempted to flee the scene.

However, despite suffering serious injuries, ASI Silvester Kachhap and other officers aboard the van pursued Paswan and managed to recapture him. In total, five police personnel, including the driver and a head constable, sustained injuries in the crash.

Upon receiving news of the incident, an additional police team arrived at the scene and transported all injured officers to the hospital. The accused was taken back into custody and sent to the police station. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
