Court acquits ex-AAP councillor

New Delhi, April 14 : A Delhi court acquitted former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Councillor Tahir Hussain, who was charged with defacing public property. Police had filed a case against Hussain on charges of putting a plastic board on an electric pole with his and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s photograph with a message:s “Aap Sabhi ko Nav Varsh Ki Mubarakbad. Dilli ne pukara Kejriwal Dubara” (Wishing you a Happy New Year) in 2015. Hussain is currently in judicial custody in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Arun Kumar Garg said the Investigating Officer had failed to point out how he had concluded that the accused was the one who put up the board as he has neither recorded the statement of residents nor the printer. The court said the police could not disclose the names of witnesses who made the allegations. No one deposed that the board had been hung by Hussain. RA MR
