Patna, 11 August (HS) — Continuous heavy rainfall in Bihar and in the neighbouring hilly regions has caused the Ganga and other major rivers in the state to flow above the danger mark. Flood conditions remain critical in districts along the Ganga, including Patna, Bhagalpur, Munger, Begusarai, Khagaria and Katihar.

The floods have claimed 19 lives so far — eight in Begusarai, two each in Bhagalpur, Siwan, Bhojpur and Khagaria, and one each in Munger, Vaishali and Katihar.
Over 10 lakh people across the state are affected. To manage the situation, 14 teams of the 9th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been placed on alert, with teams deployed in Darbhanga, Supaul, Motihari and Nalanda.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 19 districts, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning. In the past 24 hours, Katihar recorded 140 mm rainfall, Nalanda 70 mm and Patna 57 mm. NDRF teams and the State Disaster Management Department are carrying out relief and rescue operations, but weather conditions over the next 48 hours could worsen the situation.
On Sunday night, moderate rain was recorded in Patna, Supaul, Banka and Lakhisarai, while heavy showers began Monday morning in Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar. In the last 24 hours, Katihar received 140 mm rainfall, Nalanda 70 mm, Sheikhpura and Banka 65 mm each, and Patna 57 mm.
In Patna, the day is expected to remain mostly cloudy with light to moderate rain. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 32°C and the minimum 26°C, with wind speeds between 12–18 km/h and high humidity. Rain is expected to bring slight relief from the heat.
