Bhopal, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Bhopal’s Congress president, Jitu Patwari, has called on party workers to organize protests across the state on October 8. This initiative is in response to the alleged police action against Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and other members of the INDIA alliance during a recent march in New Delhi.
Patwari urged Congress members to hold demonstrations at the district, block, and division levels, declaring October 8 as a “Black Day” for Indian democracy.
In his message, he stated, “Today, under the leadership of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, INDIA alliance MPs were marching peacefully towards Jantar Mantar to demand accountability from the Election Commission. During this, they were stopped and faced police violence.”
He accused the police of using batons against Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other senior opposition leaders, resulting in injuries to several individuals.
Patwari emphasized that the attack on elected representatives is an attack on the Constitution itself. He reiterated that the Indian National Congress has designated this day as a “Black Day” for Indian democracy.
He called on Congress leaders and activists to remain united and protest against attacks on democratic institutions. His appeal followed a message from fellow Congress leader Pawan Khera, who also urged state and district committees to observe October 8 as a “Black Day.”
Khera highlighted that all provincial and district Congress committees should commemorate the day in protest against the alleged police actions against the Leader of the Opposition and other senior opposition MPs. He claimed that these actions were orchestrated by a coalition involving the RSS, BJP, and the Election Commission of India.
Notably, Congress has intensified its campaign against the Election Commission regarding issues related to the voter list and is demanding greater accountability from the electoral body. On Wednesday, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi led a march to Jantar Mantar addressing these concerns.
