Congress Questions Vegetarian Kitchen Directive in Keralas Lok Bhavan

Congress raises concerns over a vegetarian-only kitchen directive in Kerala, accusing RSS of imposing its agenda.

New Delhi, October 24 (Daily Kiran) : Congress party leaders have expressed strong objections to a directive mandating a vegetarian kitchen in Kerala’s Lok Bhavan. Rajya Sabha MP J.B. Mathur stated that this move reflects an attempt to impose the “Sangh Parivar” agenda, which they are determined to resist.

Speaking to reporters, Mathur emphasized that personal choices regarding food, religion, language, and attire are fundamental rights of citizens. “It is up to each individual to decide what they eat, wear, speak, or believe in,” he asserted.

He criticized the imposition of such mandates, particularly from someone in a high constitutional position. “If the Governor prefers vegetarian food, that is his choice. However, others should have the freedom to choose differently,” he added.

Mathur warned that enforcing these conditions represents an effort to forcibly impose a particular ideology on the state, which poses a significant risk. He stressed the importance of addressing this issue promptly to prevent the “Sangh Parivar” agenda from taking root in Kerala. He noted that Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, along with other leaders, including Ramesh Chennithala and representatives from other parties, have also voiced strong objections, indicating a broader consensus against this directive.

The Congress MP reiterated their commitment to stopping this initiative at its inception, insisting that no one should impose the “Sangh Parivar” agenda on Kerala’s society.

In response to protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Mathur highlighted ongoing concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. “We are tackling a significant issue that affects our democracy and the fairness of the election system. When doubts arise about the Chief Election Commissioner’s integrity, we must demand his resignation,” he stated, underscoring the party’s commitment to fighting for electoral integrity.

Mathur also mentioned that the Congress party is collaborating with the INDIA bloc and other opposition parties to protect democratic values, actively engaging in protests and constitutional measures.

Regarding the request from business organizations to postpone Rahul Gandhi’s rally scheduled for November 1 until after Diwali, Mathur acknowledged the concerns but stressed the need for a broader perspective on the issue. “We will address any concerns raised, but we must view the situation comprehensively,” he concluded.
