Dehradun, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Congress party in Uttarakhand has voiced strong opposition to the recent appointment of Dushyant Gautam as the Governor of Sikkim. Party president Ganesh Godiyal and spokesperson Garima Dasouni highlighted concerns related to the Ankita Bhandari murder case, questioning the decision amid ongoing investigations.
Godiyal described Gautam’s appointment as an affront to the sentiments of the people of Uttarakhand. He pointed out that Gautam’s name has emerged in connection with the high-profile case, raising serious questions that remain unanswered. The family of the victim, Ankita Bhandari, has called for a thorough CBI investigation, particularly regarding the identity of the alleged VIP involved. Instead of addressing these pressing concerns, the central government has appointed Gautam, which Godiyal criticized as a sign of insensitivity from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration.
As part of their protest, Congress has announced a silent vigil at Gandhi Park for one hour. Godiyal emphasized his responsibility as the leader of the opposition to represent the feelings of the people of Uttarakhand. He indicated that further discussions on protest strategies would take place upon the return of other party leaders from Delhi.
Spokesperson Garima Dasouni echoed these sentiments, asserting that the BJP is challenging the self-respect and emotions of Uttarakhand residents. She questioned the rationale behind appointing Gautam as governor while critical questions surrounding the Ankita Bhandari case remain unresolved. Dasouni noted that Ankita was a beloved daughter and sister of Uttarakhand, and the community continues to seek justice for her family.
Congress leaders clarified that the silent vigil is just the beginning of their protest efforts. After a meeting of the party leadership, they plan to strategize further actions to convey the discontent of Uttarakhand’s citizens to the central government.
