Congress Leaders Discuss 2027 Election Strategy in Uttarakhand Meeting
Congress leaders, including Kharge and Gandhi, strategize for the 2027 Uttarakhand elections amid concerns over corruption and governance.

New Delhi, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, convened a meeting in New Delhi on November 2 with senior party leaders from Uttarakhand. The primary focus was to discuss preparations for the upcoming 2027 assembly elections in the hilly state.
Key figures at the meeting included Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, Uttarakhand Congress in-charge Kumari Selja, State President Ganesh Godiyal, Leader of the Opposition in the Uttarakhand Assembly Yashpal Arya, and head of the party’s election management committee Harak Singh Rawat. Notably absent was senior leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat.
Kharge criticized the “double engine” BJP government in Uttarakhand, claiming it has let down the aspirations of the state’s people over the past decade. He stated on social media, “Deteriorating law and order, serious questions around women’s safety, and a persistent trend of evading accountability have disappointed the public.”
He emphasized that the people of Uttarakhand are demanding accountability and change. “The Congress party is committed to fighting for the rights of the people, from the streets to the assembly. Our resolve is to regain the public’s trust and provide Uttarakhand with a safe, sensitive, and accountable government focused on public welfare.”
Following the meeting, Kumari Selja informed reporters about the extensive discussions regarding the party’s election campaign agenda. “As this is an election-focused state, we reviewed the current situation. We discussed what is happening and how we will proceed together. We will share details about our strategy at the right time. We are fully prepared; our programs are already underway.”
Additionally, the Congress plans to protest against alleged land scams and the “illegal” sale or auction of land in Uttarakhand on November 4 at district and state headquarters. Selja pointed out that corruption and land scams are significant issues. “Land is being sold at very low prices, which is a major scandal and a crucial part of the corruption issue. The widespread nature of corruption includes land encroachments. We are fully aware of what is happening on such a large scale. Our leaders will conduct protests at various locations to draw public attention to this matter.”
Selja also announced that the party would hold a press conference at its headquarters to expose the alleged scam. When asked about Harish Rawat’s absence, she explained that there are specific criteria for meetings and that discussions with all leaders continue regularly. This is an ongoing process that will include other leaders as well.
Harak Singh Rawat, in a conversation, stated that the Congress will protest against the ongoing corruption in Uttarakhand. “Whether it is land scams in Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun, or the multi-crore land issues concerning the hydropower corporation, we are preparing to protest on November 4. We have developed a comprehensive action plan addressing corruption and these issues for the next three months.”
