Mumbai, April 5: Congress leader Dolly Sharma expressed enthusiasm about Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming visit to Puducherry. In a recent conversation, she noted that the residents are eager to hear him speak, highlighting a unique connection between Gandhi and the people of Puducherry. She mentioned that he will unveil the party’s manifesto for the region tomorrow.
Sharma criticized the BJP, claiming their manifesto is filled with falsehoods and empty promises. She recalled that during the last election, the BJP made grand statements but failed to deliver. “They have returned with another fake manifesto,” she stated. “What we promise, we deliver. The development seen in Puducherry is due to the Congress government. The BJP has only provided lies and empty slogans.”
She further emphasized the excitement surrounding Rahul Gandhi, stating that no other leader enjoys such support. In contrast, she pointed out the difficulties faced by citizens during Prime Minister Modi’s roadshow, which caused traffic disruptions and hindered emergency services. “They are only focused on their own publicity, with no real plans for the people of Puducherry,” she added.
On the topic of the Women’s Reservation Bill, Sharma welcomed the idea of increasing seats for women but criticized the BJP for previously promising 33% reservation without follow-through. “We expected them to deliver this in the Lok Sabha elections, but nothing happened. Now, with elections approaching in several states, they are trying to woo women voters again,” she remarked.
Sharma concluded by asserting that the Congress party has significantly contributed to women’s empowerment in the country. She highlighted that the party has had female presidents and speakers, and has implemented 33% reservation for women in local governance. “If anyone truly cares about women’s issues, it is the Congress party. Women must step forward,” she urged.
