Congress Criticizes Election Commissions Delayed Response on Voter Registration Issues

Congress leader Pawan Khera criticizes the Election Commissions response, calling it inadequate and delayed amid ongoing voter registration controversies.

New Delhi, September 26 (Daily Kiran) : Congress MP Pawan Khera has voiced strong criticism against the Election Commission‘s recent press release, labeling it as weak, insufficient, and belated. Speaking on Saturday, he asserted that the statement confirmed the authenticity of earlier reports but failed to address many crucial questions.

Khera highlighted that two election commissioners opposed changes made to Form 6, deeming them “unauthorized” and “illegal.” The Election Commission has stated that the old Form 6 will be available outside the SIR, specifically within the SSR. However, he raised concerns about young voters in states like Bihar and West Bengal who may have been disenfranchised, questioning the relevance of the old Form 6 if SSRs have not been conducted since January 2024.

Moreover, Khera pointed out that the Election Commission plans to form a committee to review ECI-NET, led by a senior deputy election commissioner and including an IIT/IIM expert. He questioned the necessity of this new committee when a Project Steering Committee (PSC) already exists to oversee e-governance, including ECI-NET, comprising all deputy election commissioners and three experts from IIT/IIM.

While the Election Commission reported that 81 out of 97 voters in Goa filled out Form 6, Khera emphasized that fundamental questions remain unanswered. He asked why these voters were excluded initially and how many others across India faced similar issues. He demanded clarity on the Commission’s plans to locate and reinstate these disenfranchised voters.

Khera concluded by asserting that despite attempts by officials like Gyanesh Kumar to obscure the situation with lengthy press notes, accountability cannot be evaded. He suggested that Kumar should either resign and become a government witness or prepare to face charges of treason.
