New Delhi, April 15: BJP MPs Praveen Khandelwal and K. Lakshman have responded to the ongoing protests regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill and the call for a special session.
Expressing concerns over the delimitation process proposed by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, K. Lakshman stated in an interview, “The number of seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Parliament and state assemblies will also increase. I fail to understand why some people oppose enhanced representation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and women in these bodies. They lack solid arguments. Our Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy argues that this process should be based on GSDP (Gross State Domestic Product), which is unconstitutional. Nowhere in the world is delimitation based on GSDP or GST; it is entirely based on population.”
K. Lakshman further remarked, “This is a fabricated story created by certain parties that have no ground in the south. It is evident that Prime Minister Modi passed the long-pending Women’s Reservation Bill in 2023 after nearly 30 years. He has also expressed the intention to implement reservations in the 2029 elections. However, I do not understand why the so-called Congress party, which has been in power for over 50 years, could not bring a bill in favor of women’s reservation in the assembly.”
Regarding the upcoming special session on the Women’s Reservation Bill, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal stated, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to this issue, and his goal is to increase women’s participation in politics. Accordingly, there will finally be a discussion on women’s reservation, and delimitation will also be deliberated in this context. Therefore, this parliamentary session will undoubtedly be historic, and these three days will be recorded in history concerning women’s empowerment.”
Praveen Khandelwal also congratulated Samrat Chaudhary on being elected as the Chief Minister of Bihar, saying, “On behalf of myself and the business community, I extend my congratulations. Undoubtedly, the politics of the Bharatiya Janata Party is based on integrity and inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas.’ Under the guidance of the Prime Minister and the leadership of Samrat Chaudhary, the Bihar government will perform well and work towards development.”
