Coach Gambhir Sends Heartfelt Message to Rinku Singh Amid Personal Loss

Mumbai, March 3: Rinku Singh rejoined the Indian team just a day after the passing of his father during the T20 World Cup 2026. Head coach Gautam Gambhir praised Rinku for his courage during this challenging time, emphasizing that the entire team stands by him.

The semi-final match between India and England is set for March 5. Before the match, Gambhir delivered an inspiring speech and took a moment to send a heartfelt message to Rinku.

In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Gambhir stated, “Friends, before we begin, Rinku, it takes immense courage to come back and be part of the team. Remember, you are not alone. The entire team is with you during this time, so stay strong.”

Rinku’s father, Khan Chand, passed away on Friday after a long battle with liver cancer. He had been admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida on February 21, and was on ventilator support before his passing. Following his father’s death, Rinku returned home for the last rites but rejoined the team on Sunday ahead of the Super 8 match against the West Indies.

Although Rinku was not included in the playing eleven for that match, his determination won the hearts of many.

Throughout the tournament, Rinku has struggled with his form, scoring only 24 runs in five innings. He managed just 6 runs against the USA and added only 1 run against Namibia. He scored an unbeaten 11 runs against Pakistan and 6 runs against the Netherlands, and failed to score against South Africa. In three T20 matches against England, Rinku has averaged 19.50 runs, including a top score of 32.
