Lucknow, August 9: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the ‘Kakori Train Action Centenary Celebration’ on Sunday. He stated that labeling the Kakori incident as a robbery undermines the sacrifices and objectives of the revolutionaries. Their sole aim was to liberate India from British rule.
CM Adityanath emphasized that while the British referred to the Kakori Train Action as a ‘robbery,’ unfortunate political leaders in independent India have also long referred to it as the ‘Kakori Robbery Case,’ dishonoring the revolutionaries instead of honoring them. Events like Kakori and Chauri Chaura have not been given their rightful place in history.
He remarked that the struggle for India’s independence was not the result of a single individual or ideology. Millions fought on various fronts, and many revolutionaries sacrificed everything. Forgetting these sacrifices distances the youth from their sources of inspiration.
Referring to the Chauri Chaura incident, CM Yogi noted that after that event, the Congress suspended its movement. He mentioned that Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya defended the accused of Chauri Chaura, while some local leaders acted against the revolutionaries. The Chief Minister accused post-independence leaders of failing to honor the revolutionaries as they deserved. He stated that India did not become enslaved without reason; internal divisions and conspiracies against India also played a role.
He warned that forces aiming to weaken India by dividing society based on caste and region are still active today. He identified social media as a new medium for anti-India propaganda, stating that such forces misuse it to spread rumors and mislead society.
CM Yogi urged the youth to remain vigilant against such misinformation. He asserted that those who kept the younger generation away from their revolutionary heroes committed the greatest injustice. Denying a young person the chance to take pride in their heroes is akin to distancing them from their ideals and inspirations.
He alleged that those in power after independence continued this trend for a long time. Many heroes and heroines who played significant roles in the freedom struggle have not received the recognition they deserve in history. The Chief Minister mentioned figures like Rani Lakshmibai, Veerangana Uda Devi, Jhalkari Bai, and Avantibai Lodhi, noting that obstacles were created even in establishing memorials and buildings in their names.
He pointed out that for a long time, politics surrounded the honor of freedom struggle heroes. However, since 2014, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, efforts have been made to honor the heroes and martyrs of the freedom struggle. He noted that by renaming the Kakori incident from ‘Kakori Robbery’ to ‘Kakori Train Action,’ Prime Minister Modi has sought to give due respect to the contributions of great revolutionaries.
CM Yogi stated that for a long time, the politics of naming in the country was limited to one family. Now, those heroes who dedicated their all to India’s freedom and nation-building are being honored.
He concluded by saying that the Kakori Train Action is not just a historical event but a chapter that inspires the youth with patriotism, courage, and sacrifice. Through such events, it is essential to connect the new generation with the real heroes of the freedom struggle and their struggles.
