China-UK Ties Show Strong Growth Potential, CGTN Survey Finds

Beijing, January 29 – Amid a rapidly changing and complex international environment, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has begun his visit to China. This marks the first visit by a British Prime Minister to China in eight years. Starmer is also among the recent foreign leaders to visit China, reflecting growing diplomatic engagement.

A survey conducted by CGTN revealed that 85.2 percent of respondents believe the frequent visits by foreign leaders signify broad agreement on achieving balanced and orderly multipolarity, along with inclusive and mutually beneficial globalisation.

The survey further showed that 64.8 percent of participants see the UK Prime Minister’s visit as an effort to bring greater stability to foreign relations. Economic and trade cooperation has long been a key element of China-UK relations, based on mutual benefit. In 2025, bilateral trade in goods reached a significant value of 103.7 billion US dollars.

Additionally, 85.8 percent of respondents consider China’s vast market as a vital opportunity for British businesses.

The evolving nature of China-UK relations has repeatedly demonstrated that bilateral cooperation yields tangible benefits. According to the survey, 83.1 percent of respondents feel maintaining stable and mutually beneficial ties requires both sides to adhere to principles of mutual respect, equality, and shared gains while working together in the same direction.

Moreover, 68.2 percent believe that differences between the two countries can be resolved through rational dialogue under the principles of mutual respect and practical cooperation.

This survey highlights the strong potential for enhanced collaboration between China and the UK, reflecting a shared interest in fostering stable, constructive, and beneficial bilateral relations.
