Raipur, April 17: The Chhattisgarh government has taken a firm stance following a devastating incident at the Vedanta Power Limited plant located in Sakti district. The General Administration Department has issued orders for a high-level investigation into the matter. The inquiry will be led by the Bilaspur Commissioner.
The accident occurred on April 14 at the boiler unit-1 of the plant situated in Singhitrai under the Dabhra tehsil. A significant malfunction in the joint of the water supply pipe connected to the steam pipe led to a catastrophic event. Several workers lost their lives, while many others sustained serious injuries.
In light of the incident’s severity, the state government has appointed the Bilaspur Commissioner as the investigating officer. He has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation to clarify when and under what circumstances the accident occurred, identifying any technical or human factors involved, and recommending concrete measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The government has instructed the investigating officer to submit a report within 30 days.
Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai expressed deep sorrow over this tragic event. He paid tribute to the deceased workers and extended condolences to their families, describing the incident as extremely painful. According to the report from the chief boiler inspector, an excessive accumulation of fuel inside the boiler furnace led to a sudden surge in pressure, resulting in an explosion in boiler-1. The pressure was so intense that the lower pipe of the boiler was displaced from its designated position, causing this horrific accident.
