Srinagar, April 7: In a crucial match of the Indian Football League (IFL) 2025-26, Chanmari FC defeated Real Kashmir FC 2-1. The game took place on Monday at the TRC Stadium in Srinagar. Marlon Ranjel and Lalruatsanga scored for Chanmari FC, while Marius Bedjigui netted a goal for the home team, reducing the deficit. Despite this, Chanmari FC maintained their lead and climbed to seventh place in the standings with eight points. Real Kashmir remains at the bottom with just two points from seven matches. Marlon Ranjel was named ‘Player of the Match.’
The home team dominated much of the first half, taking advantage of strong winds that made accurate forward passing difficult for midfielders. Real Kashmir FC’s foreign players, led by captain Mohammad Inaam, performed admirably and appeared more likely to score. Conversely, Chanmari FC created threats through their counter-attacks.
The ‘Snow Leopards’ hit the post twice in the first half. Mohammad Inaam took a shot at the near post from Junior Traore’s pass, while Marius Bedjigui’s shot from outside the box hit the crossbar after a superb corner.
Just before the end of the first half, Chanmari took the lead against the run of play through a set-piece. P. Christopher Kamei delivered a delicate chip ball into the box. Real Kashmir’s goalkeeper, Syed Bin, misjudged the ball’s speed and direction, allowing it to slip through his hands and into the net. Marlon Ranjel easily converted the chance, giving the visitors a lead they held until halftime.
Chanmari doubled their lead shortly after the hour mark, capitalizing on Real Kashmir’s poor set-piece defense. Christopher Kamei assisted again, as Lalruatsanga skillfully side-footed the ball into the net from a corner kick, having outmaneuvered his marker.
The ‘Snow Leopards’ responded just two minutes later. Shedrack Charles was fouled at the edge of the box, earning a free-kick. Marius stepped up and curled the ball over the five-man wall into the net.
Real Kashmir applied constant pressure for an equalizer, but Shedrack Charles squandered a golden opportunity. Marius, the standout player for the home team, delivered a low cross from the right. The defender failed to clear, setting up a perfect chance for Shedrack. However, from just six yards out, he struck the ball too hard, sending it over the crossbar.
In the remaining minutes, Chanmari maintained control. Although the home team pushed for an equalizer, they failed to create clear chances or trouble the visitors’ defense. Ultimately, Chanmari FC preserved their one-goal lead and secured three vital points.
