New Delhi, March 8: On International Women’s Day, India’s three armed forces—the Army, Air Force, and Navy—are recognizing the significant contributions of women in their ranks. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh extended heartfelt wishes to all women, highlighting their strength, dedication, and resolve as a source of inspiration for the nation.
Singh emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government is committed to empowering women, providing them with more opportunities to play crucial roles in nation-building. He stated that the courage, patience, and struggle of Indian women play a vital role in the country’s progress.
In honor of this day, a special educational program was held at the Eye Department of the Army’s RR Hospital in New Delhi. This event was a collaboration between the Armed Forces Medical Services and the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences at AIIMS. Surgeon Vice Admiral Aarti Sarin, the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, was present to inaugurate this initiative alongside Professor Radhika Tandon. Experts discussed complex eye diseases, including retinal detachment and fungal corneal infections, sharing insights on modern treatment and management.
The Indian Air Force also celebrated Women’s Day by honoring women’s achievements, stating that their strength and courage inspire society and contribute significantly to national progress. Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Kataria, Commander of the Western Command of the Indian Army, extended his wishes to female officers, soldiers, defense civilian employees, veterans, and their families. He remarked that women’s courage, leadership, and dedication strengthen the traditions and values of the Indian Army.
The Army referenced the famous Sanskrit saying, “Yatra naryastu pujyante, ramante tatra devatah,” meaning where women are honored, divinity resides. The statement underscored that women’s participation and leadership are crucial for the nation’s progress and nation-building.
This significant day aims to honor women’s rights, equality, and their social, economic, and political contributions. Women in the Indian armed forces are playing pivotal roles, whether flying modern aircraft in the Air Force or participating in global missions in the Navy.
