Kolkata, August 11: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken significant steps in the investigation of the rape and murder of a junior female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The special investigation team (SIT) has summoned all doctors and staff who were on duty in the hospital building on the night of August 8, 2024, when the heinous crime occurred.
Reports indicate that the junior doctor was assaulted in a seminar room within the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and was later murdered. Sources reveal that the CBI’s new team is re-interrogating all personnel present in the building that night.
Previously, the victim’s family alleged that the initial investigation team failed to adequately question individuals who were in the same building or on the same floor during the incident.
Following a directive from the Calcutta High Court for a fresh investigation, the CBI team has commenced questioning all hospital staff and doctors who were on duty that night.
Recently, a bench of the Calcutta High Court expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of the new investigation team. The court advised the CBI to start the inquiry from scratch, rather than being influenced by the previous investigation.
In response, the CBI team has accelerated its activities in the case. Investigators have also seized the mobile phone of a female hospital employee, who was reportedly the first to contact the victim’s family after the body was discovered in the seminar room on the morning of August 9.
According to sources, the victim’s family claimed that the employee provided inconsistent and contradictory information during phone calls made at intervals. This led to the seizure of her mobile phone.
The confiscated phone has been sent for forensic examination. Investigators are reviewing call records and other digital data to uncover crucial answers related to the case.
