Mumbai, May 18: In a significant development in the NEET paper leak case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested another key suspect, Professor Shivraj Motegaonkar. He is the owner of the RCC Coaching Institute in Latur, which offers coaching for the NEET UG examination. The institute operates nine branches, with its main branch located in Latur.
Motegaonkar is closely associated with P.V. Kulkarni, a chemistry lecturer linked to the National Testing Agency (NTA). A search conducted at both the institute and his residence uncovered a chemistry question bank containing the exact questions that appeared in the NEET exam on May 3.
In the past 24 hours, the CBI has carried out searches at five different locations, seizing several incriminating documents, laptops, and mobile phones. A detailed analysis of the seized items is currently underway.
The CBI initiated this case on May 12, 2026, based on a written complaint from the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, concerning the alleged paper leak of the NEET UG 2026 examination. Following the registration of the case, special teams were formed to conduct searches across various locations nationwide. Several suspects have been detained for questioning.
So far, ten suspects have been arrested from Delhi, Jaipur, Gurugram, Nashik, Pune, Latur, and Ahilyanagar. Previously, nine suspects were presented in court and are currently in police custody for intensive interrogation.
The investigation by the special teams is ongoing. Preliminary findings have revealed the original source of the chemistry and biology paper leaks. These papers were disseminated prior to the examination. Additionally, intermediaries who played a role in recruiting students for special coaching classes, where they paid substantial amounts to access discussions on the NEET UG 2026 exam questions, have also been apprehended.
