New Delhi, April 28: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its efforts in a major cyber fraud case linked to ‘digital arrest’ by filing a chargesheet against five accused on April 25. Among those charged is a private company. Currently, three of the named suspects are in judicial custody.
This case was registered by the CBI on November 24, 2025, following directives from the Kerala High Court. Investigations reveal that cybercriminals impersonated law enforcement agencies and judicial officials to target a senior citizen, intimidating him with fake notices and defrauding him of over ₹1.8 crore. The criminals maintained contact with the victim through video calls, exerting mental pressure under the guise of a so-called ‘digital arrest.’
The chargesheet identifies the accused as Salish Kumar CS, Blessin Jacob Abraham, Mohammad Junaid Hussain, Mohammad Mushtaq, and JCSS Capital International Private Limited.
The CBI’s investigation has uncovered that two of the arrested individuals were managing bank accounts used to deposit the fraudulently obtained funds. Additionally, a related company has been implicated in the network. The agency also revealed that one suspect was actively involved in acquiring bank accounts for the cybercriminals, while another played a crucial role in fraudulently issuing SIM cards used to contact the victim.
Preliminary investigations suggest that this cyber fraud may be linked to international organized crime syndicates based in Southeast Asia, which are targeting Indian citizens for large-scale scams. The CBI has made it clear that strict legal action will be taken against individuals and entities involved in such cases, especially those who facilitate cybercriminals by misusing banking and telecommunications infrastructure.
