Reiterating the importance of the BRICS group, Jaishankar noted that there is an increasing expectation, particularly from emerging markets and developing countries, for BRICS to play a structural and stabilizing role.
He highlighted the significance of ongoing discussions, stating that they provide an opportunity to reflect on major global and regional developments and to identify practical ways to strengthen cooperation among member countries.
Addressing climate concerns, Jaishankar pointed out that climate change remains a critical global issue that requires collective attention. “Climate change is a significant concern. Our discussions should promote sustainable development while advancing the principles of equity and common but differentiated responsibilities,” he stated.
He also emphasized the growing impact of technological advancements on the global order, advocating for these developments to be utilized to promote good governance and inclusive growth.
Jaishankar stressed that issues of peace and security remain central to the global order, underscoring the need for dialogue and diplomacy amid ongoing conflicts in various regions. “Peace and security issues are central to the global order. Recent conflicts further highlight the importance of dialogue and diplomacy,” he said, while also calling for stronger cooperation against terrorism.
He expressed gratitude to all participating delegations for their continued support in strengthening cooperation within the BRICS framework. “As the chair, I thank each delegation for their presence and commitment to enhancing cooperation within the BRICS framework. Our close and continuous engagement through bilateral and multilateral interactions is vital. Gathering for the BRICS meeting today is a special opportunity that encourages us to share perspectives and develop convergence. In this complex and uncertain world, this is even more crucial,” he added.
