Brave Auto Driver Foils Chain Snatcher in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 5: In a remarkable act of bravery, an auto-rickshaw driver in Hyderabad risked his life to apprehend a chain snatcher who had stolen a woman’s gold chain.

The driver, Mohammad Zaheer, displayed extraordinary courage by colliding his auto with the suspect’s motorcycle to prevent his escape. He confronted the thief, who attempted to strike him with a stick.

This incident occurred on Monday morning in the Begum Bazaar Jinsi Chaurasta area.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar honored Zaheer for his bravery on Tuesday, presenting him with a cash reward and a certificate of appreciation. The commissioner also shared CCTV footage of the incident on social media. The suspect has been identified as Mohammad Sohel, a known criminal with a history of offenses.

Commissioner Sajjanar stated, “It is not enough to merely witness crimes. An ordinary auto driver has proven that true civic duty is to apprehend criminals. When a miscreant attempted to snatch a woman’s chain, Zaheer risked his life, using his auto as a weapon to stop him. Despite being attacked with a stick, he faced the assailant fearlessly.”

According to the commissioner, on the morning of May 4, Manju Omalta was out for a morning walk with her daughter-in-law. Near the Hindi Marwari School, the suspect attempted to snatch her gold chain, during which he fell off his motorcycle.

Hearing her cries for help, Zaheer, who had already passed the scene by about 100 meters, quickly reversed his auto and rammed into the suspect’s motorcycle to prevent his escape. Despite being attacked with a stick, Zaheer bravely apprehended him.

As Sohel tried to flee, patrolling police officers quickly caught him. Zaheer then left the scene without expecting any reward. Later, the victim informed the police about his bravery, and the entire incident was captured on CCTV.

The commissioner noted that the police launched an investigation to identify this unknown hero. They traced Zaheer’s identity through the auto number captured on CCTV.

Commissioner Sajjanar emphasized that Zaheer’s bravery serves as an example for society. Nowadays, many people ignore crimes happening right before their eyes, but Zaheer risked his life to stop a criminal. He is a true role model for the community. Such responsible citizens instill fear in criminals.

Sajjanar urged the city’s residents to show courage and report any crime immediately by calling 100 or contacting local police.

Meanwhile, the Goshamahal police station has registered a case against Sohel and arrested him. He already has 16 cases registered against him in various police stations.
