Patna, April 14 : In a sudden political move, Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee ( BPCC) president Madan Mohan Jha learnt to quit his post on Thursday in New Delhi. Madan Mohan Jha, summoned by the party’s top leadership was camping in New Delhi for the last two days where he called on Rahul Gandhi. The BPCC chief was under constant pressure to relinquish his post due to the poor performance of the party in the state. Some of the senior leaders of the party maintained in Patna that he has resigned and the hunt for new incumbent was going on war footing. Names of MLAs Rajesh Ram, Vijay Shankar Dubey, Ajit Sharma, former Lok Sabha Speaker Mera Kumar, senior party leaders Tariq Anwar, Shyam Sundar Singh Dhiraj, MLC Dr Samir Kumar Singh, youth leader Tathagat Harshvardhan district president if Buxar, Dhananjay Sharma party district president of Arwal, former MLA Poonam Paswan and others were doing rounds in the political corridors. Madan Mohan Jha, however, said that he had offered to quit as his term was over. Sources close to the party said that the performance of Congress was not up to the mark under the regime of Madan Mohan Jha as it hardly won 19 seats out of 70 it had contested in the last assembly election. Similarly, the party won only one seat out of 24 in the recently concluded Legislative Council elections. Meanwhile, Congress has postponed its two weeks long Gandhi Sandesh Yatra scheduled to start on April 17 from Champaran in Bihar without giving any valid reason. RS ARN
