Mumbai, July 30  — In a surprising turn of events, the unexpected box office success of the fresh-faced film Saiyara, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Anit Padda, has created a major roadblock for Ajay Devgn’s much-awaited film Son of Sardar 2. The film, which was earlier pushed back once, is now facing uncertainty over its revised August 1 release date as well.

Screen Count Drops Amid Saiyara and Mahavatar Narsimh’s Box Office Run

Initially, Ajay Devgn and his team had planned a wide release across nearly 3,500 screens nationwide. However, trade insiders now suggest that the screen count could shrink to around 2,500. The main reason is the strong performance of both Saiyara and Mahavatar Narsimh, which are delivering impressive returns to theatre owners. With packed shows and sustained earnings, cinema halls are in no hurry to replace these profitable titles.

Showtime Dispute Between Distributors and Theatre Chains

Sources indicate that the distributors of Son of Sardar 2 are demanding at least 60% of daily show timings, but theatre owners are hesitant to comply. Most single-screen theatres are reportedly offering only two shows per day for the film, and even non-national cinema chains are leaning in a similar direction. Leading multiplex groups like PVR INOX have expressed dissatisfaction over the imbalance and voiced concern over the situation. Negotiations between producers and theatre owners are still underway, and industry watchers hope for a last-minute resolution.

For now, it’s fair to say that Saiyara has emerged as a major obstacle on the path of Son of Sardar 2.

Dhadak 2 Takes a Quiet Route

Meanwhile, Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri, has decided to steer clear of the ongoing release clutter. Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film will release on just 1,000 screens. Sources say Johar is fully satisfied with the limited release, seeing it as a strategic move — much like the one deployed earlier with Kesari 2.
