New Delhi, April 11 : A day after clash broke out between two groups of students in Jawaharlal Nehru versity (JNU) over allegedly eating non-vegetarian food and celebration of Ram Navmi, the students of ABVP and Leftists on Monday came out and trying to clarify their points before media. Both groups, ABVP and Left outfits, students were indulged in allegations and counter allegations against each other. ABVP JNU t president Rohit Kumar claimed that there was no issue about non-vegetarian food. Leftist students had a problem with the celebration of Ram Navmi at JNU. “We have no issue with non-vegetarian foods. In fact, non-veg foods were cooked in other hostel messes on the same day here but we did not object to it. But leftist students made it an issue in the Kaveri hostel mess,” said Kumar. ABVP t claimed that students held four programmes-Havan, Hanuman Path, Kirtan and Pooja- in the campus but leftists did not digest it and started ruckus over this issue. However, leftist students claimed that several activists of ABVP were forcing them not to eat non-veg food at Kaveri Hostel. “These activists were saying that no non-veg food would be served in the mess following which they threatened the mess vender. They accused us that we were not cooperating with them,” claimed Prabhanshu Kajala, second year student of PHD, who also received a head injury and get stitches during the clash. A Kaveri hostel member claimed that it was not a religious issue, it was just an eating of non-vegetarian food issue only. Meanwhile, JNU administration issued an order on April 10, and warned students to refrain from involving in any disturbance of peace and harmony in the campus. If anyone is found indulging in such an act, he/she will be liable for disciplinary action. As per JNU press statement, later in the night, Vice Chancellor, Prof Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit visited Kaveri Hostel and took stock of the situation. JNU administration today appealed to everyone to exercise restraint and let the academic environment flourish in the campus without any external disturbances. Earlier in the morning, an FIR was registered in JNU violence occurred on Monday evening. Delhi Police said it received a complaint from a group of students who are members of JNUSU, SFI, DSF and AISA early Monday morning against unknown ABVP students. On the basis of complaint, an FIR has been lodged under sections of IPC. The probe is on to collect factual and scientific evidence and identify the culprits, said police. The students belonging to ABVP have also intimated that they will be giving the complaint Monday morning. On receipt of the same appropriate legal action will be taken, said Delhi Police. Later on, in the afternoon, leftist students gathered near Police Headquarters to hold a protest against ABVP, they were detained by Delhi Police and sent them to different police stations. CM SY 1753
