Hyderabad, April 27: A bomb threat at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad caused a significant scare on Monday morning. The alert was triggered after a threatening email was sent to the airport’s customer support.
The email, received at 6:10 AM from an individual named Yuxan Shi, claimed that 15 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) based on RDX were hidden in passengers’ hand luggage across two terminals. The sender urged the immediate evacuation of all VIP passengers.
Upon receiving the email, airport authorities took the threat seriously and promptly alerted security agencies. Within minutes, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and a bomb disposal squad arrived at the scene. A thorough search operation commenced throughout the airport, examining every corner, baggage, and suspicious area. So far, no suspicious items or explosive materials have been found.
During this time, passengers at the airport were urged to remain calm. Security personnel requested cooperation from travelers to ensure the investigation proceeded without disruption. Security measures were heightened in several areas, and monitoring at entry and exit points was intensified.
A team of officials is now working to trace the source of the email. With the assistance of the cyber cell, authorities are investigating where the email originated and who might be behind it.
It is noteworthy that in recent months, several airports, schools, and public institutions across the country have received similar threatening emails. In most cases, these threats were later determined to be false. However, they often cause panic at airports and increase pressure on security agencies.
