Mumbai, April 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a public meeting in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, at 4:15 PM on Sunday. A large number of BJP workers are arriving to participate in the event.
The Prime Minister will speak at the historic Rasa Mela ground, marking the beginning of an aggressive outreach campaign in this region, which has recently emerged as a stronghold for the BJP. Security measures are robust, with a significant police presence deployed.
A local resident expressed frustration, stating, “The TMC has taken away our right to vote. We have not been allowed to vote for 15 years. I came to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Another young man added, “We want the current TMC government to lose. In the upcoming elections, we will exercise our voting rights properly.” A different local individual remarked, “Today’s gathering will make it clear that Mamata didi will not receive a single vote.”
However, some BJP workers faced obstacles in reaching the rally. One worker reported, “We planned to come in the same vehicle from different villages, but someone blocked our vehicle from entering. We managed to reach Narendra Modi’s rally with great difficulty.”
This is Modi’s first election rally in the state since the announcement of the assembly elections. It will also be his fourth public meeting at the Rasa Mela ground, where he previously addressed large crowds during the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the 2021 assembly elections. The elections for the 294-member West Bengal assembly will take place in two phases on April 23 and 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
Earlier, on March 14, Prime Minister Modi visited West Bengal, where he addressed a rally at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata and inaugurated development projects worth approximately ₹18,680 crores.
