Jammu, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Political tensions have escalated in Jammu and Kashmir following reports of a threatening letter received by Kashmiri Pandits. BJP legislator Vikram Randhawa condemned the threats and called for an investigation to identify their source and the individuals behind them. He also criticized the Jammu and Kashmir government and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for their handling of the situation.
Randhawa expressed concern over the alarming nature of the threats, especially amidst discussions of development in the region. He noted that while young people in Kashmir are now equipped with computers and education, the emergence of such threats is deeply troubling. It is imperative, he argued, to uncover where these threats originate and who is orchestrating them. He urged for a thorough investigation into the identities and networks of those making threats.
The legislator emphasized that the government should take the complaints of those threatened seriously. He suggested that officials meet with the affected individuals to hear their grievances and verify the authenticity of the threatening letter. Randhawa insisted that when any community feels unsafe, the government must act decisively rather than dismissively.
He mentioned that the matter has reached the Home Department, indicating the seriousness of the situation. Randhawa criticized the Jammu and Kashmir government for its lack of seriousness regarding these threats, claiming that the Chief Minister is attempting to silence those raising concerns.
In a related note, Randhawa expressed confidence in the investigative agencies following the issuance of a second warrant against terrorist Masood Azhar by an NIA court. He commended the agencies for their diligent work and urged trust in their efforts to see matters through to resolution.
Additionally, he spoke on the significance of the BRICS summit being held in Delhi, highlighting it as a point of pride for India. Randhawa accused the Congress party of politicizing this international event and called for a more positive outlook from the opposition regarding India’s global role.
He also questioned the Jammu and Kashmir government’s decision to call a brief assembly session, interpreting it as a sign of weakness. Randhawa argued that the government is avoiding accountability by limiting the session’s duration. He assured that the BJP, as the primary opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, will diligently raise public issues in the assembly.
