BJP Launches Clean Yamuna Campaign Across 70 Ghats in Delhi
BJP leaders and volunteers unite for a major cleaning initiative along the Yamuna River, emphasizing community involvement and environmental responsibility.

New Delhi, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated a significant cleaning drive named ‘Clean Yamuna’ aimed at restoring the health of the Yamuna River. This campaign saw extensive cleaning efforts at 70 ghats along the river, with participation from ministers, MPs, MLAs, party officials, and numerous volunteers. The focus was on removing waste and ensuring the ghats are kept clean.
Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa joined fellow workers in cleaning along the Yamuna. He mentioned that the BJP commemorates the Prime Minister’s birthday as ‘Service Resolution Day,’ which emphasizes voluntary service, helping those in need, and providing opportunities for the underprivileged.
Sirsa stated, “The Prime Minister’s birthday is celebrated as a service initiative by the BJP, which includes helping the needy and assisting the poor in overcoming poverty. Today’s cleaning campaign along the Yamuna reflects this spirit of service.”
Delhi Minister Pravesh Verma participated in the initiative alongside Patparganj MLA Ravinder Singh Negi and other BJP workers. They also inspected the ghats by boat. South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri visited the DND-Chilla Yamuna ghat in East Delhi and took part in the cleaning efforts.
Bidhuri described the campaign as a success, noting the involvement of thousands of party workers. “This cleaning drive along the banks of the Yamuna has been entirely successful. I recently met with workers from the Mehrauli assembly constituency, and they have done an outstanding job,” he remarked.
BJP MLA Satish Upadhyay emphasized that the Yamuna is the lifeline of Delhi, and maintaining its cleanliness is a collective responsibility. He insisted that the task of cleaning the river is not solely the government’s duty; public participation is equally crucial. According to him, the cleaning campaign is being conducted under the Chief Minister’s leadership across 70 locations.
The BJP also organized the ‘Yamuna Bank: Cleanliness Campaign 2026’ in the Sonia Vihar area, where party workers contributed to cleaning various ghats along the river. The campaign aimed to remove accumulated waste from the riverbanks and prevent it from entering the Yamuna.
Saty Sharma, chairperson of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s Standing Committee, stated that the cleaning campaign is taking place at 70 sites at the behest of the Chief Minister and state president Harsh Malhotra. She claimed that efforts to clean the Yamuna have been ongoing for the past year and a half, with several ghats successfully cleaned.
Sharma noted that many people volunteered for the initiative, highlighting the need for proper waste management along the riverbanks to prevent pollution of the Yamuna.
Former Delhi Mayor and BJP leader Raja Iqbal stressed that maintaining cleanliness in Delhi is a primary responsibility of the MCD. He mentioned that municipal employees are consistently working to clean the ghats.
Iqbal assured that MCD teams will be prepared at designated locations to assist devotees during the Chhath Puja festival, ensuring that the ghats remain clean and accessible.
Through the Yamuna cleaning campaign, BJP leaders conveyed the importance of keeping the riverbanks clean and fostering community involvement. However, to truly rid the Yamuna of pollution, regular cleaning, proper waste disposal, and controlling the flow of contaminated water into the river are essential.
