Jaipur, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : In the recent municipal elections in Rajasthan, results for 301 local bodies have been announced, revealing a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party emerged as the largest force, winning 197 seats, while the Congress party secured 94. Independent candidates claimed seven positions, and both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) each won one seat.
Out of the seven municipal corporations whose results have been declared, BJP has captured the mayoral positions in six. The Congress party managed to retain the mayoralty only in Bikaner. In Ajmer and Pali, Congress faced setbacks despite appearing strong based on the number of councilors elected.
In Ajmer, BJP’s Anamika Sharma was elected mayor with 43 votes, following the party’s success in securing 32 councilor seats. In Pali, BJP’s Namita Bubakia won with 33 votes, while Congress candidate Sumitra Jain received only three votes, despite Congress winning 29 councilor seats there.
BJP also achieved victories in Udaipur and Alwar. Paras Singhvi was elected mayor in Udaipur, while Sumanlata Agarwal won in Alwar with 42 votes against Congress’s Kamlesh Sharma, who garnered 23 votes.
In Bikaner, Congress candidate Anil Kalla, nephew of former minister B.D. Kalla, was elected mayor. A significant result also emerged from the Ataru municipality in Baran, where Congress candidate Nisha Nainwal defeated Education Minister Madan Dilawar’s brother, Krishna Murari Dilawar, by three votes.
The Aam Aadmi Party made headlines by winning the chairmanship in one local body, while the Communist Party and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party each secured one position as well. Independents also managed to win seven seats.
It is worth noting that elections for 32 local bodies, including Bhilwara and Bharatpur municipal corporations, were decided uncontested earlier. The electoral process in Rajasthan is not yet complete, as mayoral elections for three municipal corporations, including Jaipur, and one municipality are scheduled for September 25. The final political landscape of Rajasthan’s urban bodies will become clear after these results are tallied.
